ARGH. last night, in a fit of nostalgia, I tried to play Fallout 3, Game of the Year edition. it had been about 3 months, and i wanted to beat up some raiders. five minutes in – IT FROZE. repeatedly. why does this matter? here’s some backstory. i was, for a time, deeply involved in Fallout 3. some of you may know it as the little gem from Bethesda Game Studios [i puked a little just now, adding a link from wikipedia. it’s such a load of shit.]
anyway before i distract myself, i want to get my point out there: this is a game that rocked the world. It sold about over 610,000 units when it was released [October 2008]. that’s just the first month. plus it’s cross-platform, and everyone has a soft spot for it. the graphics, the gameplay, the choices, the characters… it’s all just eye candy and you find yourself immersed in a world you don’t want to leave. the hours melt away! i can personally agree with my own statement: i certainly gave up everything at various points! [if you want to take that to mean food, friends, money, real-world social interactions, work and… uh the other major thing in that list, then i can’t stop you.]
with all that glory, it’s hard to believe there could possibly be a downside. hard to believe QA got ignored. friends, in Fucked Up 3, ‘Glitch of the Year’ edition, the problems will break your heart. we have received a number of rampant reports about freezing games, odd character behaviour, and the like. it is madness out there. plus, canadians can’t even use their old save files! some stupid geo-code related law. as a final knife thrust, since it only happens with the game, we can’t even blame sony.
arrrrrrgh. that’s pretty much all i wanted to say. i really just wanted to bitch and be obnoxious.
