lord. there are just so many good things about super mario 3 on NES. i enjoyed it as a kid. as an adult, i got even more out of it, reliving those childhood memories and not having parents around who limited my time.
for nintendo, it put them on the map. in its lifetime, it’s made them millions and established them as a game industry heavyweight. here’s some news for you: it made nintendo another $5 million last year. yes. FIVE MILLION DOLLARS. if you don’t have the original copy, those crafty bastards released it on the wii. not bad for a game that was released circa 1990.
what impresses me most about mario though is the fact that they keep it as fresh as possible, while still retaining the integrity of the game. when you play the latest chapter of super mario bros wii, you get an updated game experience, but you still get the guy you grew up with.
contrast that with other characters, like sonic. i’ve been a fan of sonic all my life, but lately his exploits have been pissing me off. i know one person’s opinion won’t change things, but sonic unleashed? what a waste.
you transform into a ‘werehog’ at night. because of this, the gameplay slows down and [i am not making this shit up] you beat the shit out of wave after wave of enemies. please, just go lie down, sonic. or at the very least, re-invent yourself so we’re not creeped out by you hanging around all the time.
