folks, i am pissed. pissed, i tells ya! modern warfare 2 = great game. fantastic, in fact. plot-wise, it kind of blew and was a bit short, but the game play was so intense i felt like i was in the middle of an action movie. frankly, for $70, i like to think that it [and activision/infinity ward] knew better than to fuck me over later on. you know? i don’t think it’s a lot to ask for a wee bit of respect after forking out money for something.
anyway, after beating the game in a few days, i started hunting around for some news about dlc. i figured that they were hard at work on it, and at best it might be free, but at worst maybe $5 or so. infinity ward and activision have their shit together when it comes to their games, so i thought.
then, along comes the news that not only is it an overrated $15, but they PLANNED this release. planned! after the release of the game! for those of you who are drunk, it means they are following the fucked-up developer trend of gouging consumers for more money after a game release. it’s part of their alleged ‘stimulus package’. to add insult to injury, it’s re-using 2 maps, crash and overgrown while giving you only 3 new ones. the bailout, storm and salvage maps will be new, if you’re still reading and actually give a damn about new maps.
it’s not that i can’t afford it, it’s actually just the principle of the matter: when i’ve already paid a lot, why should i pay more? battlefield: bad company 2 charged you a little extra, sure, but they’re giving away a lot content for free. since you bought it new, you get a code that’s good for the life of that game. don’t like that system? buy the regular edition, not the platinum one. fair for everyone.
if you have the misfortune of owning an xbox 360, look for it march 30. it’ll be better for these folks because they can pay with microsoft points, or cash. on the other hand, if you have a ps3, it’ll probably be the next day. however, reports indicate that they will likely charge ps3 owners for this information.
