today’s fun fact: apparently, over 43 million people want to own a canadian. who wouldn’t? we invent a lot of shit. we make our own maple syrup. also, out of our household garbage and animals organs, we make things and release them back to the world. canadian pop stars such as justin bieber and celine dion are prime examples of this. we’re just clever bastards, you know? we’re brilliant.
this rule does not, however, apply to the rcmp, our own royal canadian mounted police. friends, gamers, other friends, lend me your ears. i came across a dutch site recently, stating this horrible fact:
“Modifying a console and computer Considered an illegal act under section 342.1 of the Criminal Code and is punishable by imprisonment for up to Ten Years,” the RCMP said in the statement”.
wait. what? WTF?! it’s for fun! something cool to show your friends… if you still have them when you’re done!
“The RCMP takes this opportunity to promote public awareness of the scourge of counterfeiting. The modification of game consoles and illegal production and sale of counterfeit video games account for losses of several million dollars annually.” “The RCMP takes this opportunity To promote public awareness of the scourge of counterfeiting. The modification or game consoles and illegal production and sale of counterfeit video games account for losses or SEVERAL million U.S. dollars Annually.”
bah. no one fucks up a machine that cost them hundreds for PROFIT! modding a console is huge. this is true, mainly because i have an entire category devoted to it on this blog. however, there are also a lot of google results for it, indicating that it’s a popular pastime among the nerderati. in the words of the guy from braveheart, i would be willing to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell my enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take… MY FREEDOM TO MOD MY CONSOLES!
except i don’t think i’d ever say that to the mounties. those guys have weapons AND are on horses.
