respect to nintendo. do you know those guys still offer technical support for the original nintendo? yeah. over 25 years later and they stand by their product so much they still pay people to help you out with technical issues.
as many of you know, i am very into retro games. so much so, that i’ve got pretty much almost every nintendo system since they started making them. the unfortunate thing is that while most of these systems still run beautifully, they occasionally do require a little…coercing.
usually, i can get the system running, since all it typically requires is a quick and simple cleaning. the other night, some friends and i decided that it was high time to play some original tetris. after we’d all tried to make it work, we wondered if nintendo could help.
turns out, if you call their customer service helpline, you’re directed through a surprisingly concise telemenu, and an option to speak to a technician regarding your issue. a live technician, might i add.
that’s not the most impressive thing though. little_nerdxo and i have a friend, we’ll call her italian/kid. she’s been banging on about the wii forever. first thing she did when she got out of school was pick up one. i thought it was a waste of money, but then italian/kid told me something awesome: she has a cat who chewed through the wii’s sensors.
at this point, you’re thinking ‘oh shit!’ – right?
not even. italian/kid called up nintendo, and explained what happened. a nintendo rep calmly said ‘no problem’, asked for her address and then told her a new one was in the mail. oh yeah – for free.
now as much as i love sony, [and the appreciation i have in my heart for xbox] i honestly don’t envision this kind of committment.
