so recently, as i’m sure you’ve read on twitter, little_nerdxo and i have been playing ‘rabbids go home’. if you don’t have it, and love to gather things and create mischief, this game is for you. it’s got a severely fucked-up rating for children – not sure how stuff like ‘suggestive themes’ and ‘mild violence’ is appropriate for children 10+ – but overall, it’s a fantastic effort from the girls and boys at ubisoft.
it’s just such a funny game, and is actually appropriate for children. the entire premise is that the rabbids, a clan of demented-looking rabbits, are bored by the garbage dump they usually fuck around in. they decide they want to go to the moon – and they want to sleep on it. they decide that rocket science and NASA be damned – they will build a giant garbage pile.
this is the main mission of the game: acquire things. little_nerdxo joked that this was probably the most appropriate game ever made for me.
you start off by a screen with your wiimote, and inside is a silly little rabbid just for you. making excellent use of the wii’s motion-sensing technology, when you shake your wii mote, it shakes the rabbid. once you actually start playing, you have the option of customized your character, like most games. unlike most games? headwear options include an octopus and a chicken.
you can acquire things in free mode, or in mission mode. anything you grab in free mode goes into the rabbid’s collection pile before you start a mission. once you finish playing in mission mode, the rabbids ship everything they’ve taken by sewer system. you get returned to the freeplay mode and can pick another mission, or screw around at your leisure.
i won’t spoil it for you, but that is the basic premise. like i have said, it’s nice to just goof around sometimes, and it’s a nice break from some of the intense titles out there. plus, with fallout: new vegas coming out soon, you won’t want to get into anything too seriously. there’s also a series of these games in case you want to add to the fun.
anyway, as you all know, when i enjoy a game, i also enjoy what my friends have dubbed ‘game shit’. usually this term is accompanied by rolling eyes.
rabids, being a quality game, does not disappoint me. i don’t know if i’m going to pick up this stuff since my shelves are incredibly hostile with me after all the shit i pile on them, but the folks at ubisoft have piles upon piles of rabbid merch. interestingly, the north america ubisoft store has one selection, but the uk ubisoft site has something totally different. i’d even argue that the english have once again bested us, but that’s a story for another day.
