have you heard that call of duty is going social? the new game is going to have a social element. barf. i tried to blog the details, but i blacked out from rage, so you will need to read it yourself.
if i had a choice between watching beige paint dry, and signing up for farmville, i would totally pick the paint. ‘oh, but obnoxious gamer! there’s LAYERS to this!’ cry pr people, dorks and advocates of social gaming.
is social gaming good for the general population? yeah, sure. a lot of things are good for the general population. generally speaking, social gaming has a time and it has a place. i think that there are a lot of great social games out there. i just think that mixing console games and social games are mashing together two things that aren’t going to work. gamers like myself are simply not served by this kind of shit.
it just doesn’t stop. there are constantly new features being implemented. i am all for progress, but enough is enough. quite frankly, when i am gaming online, i say things that blister even my less than virgin ears. they most certainly are definitely not fit to print. i would hate for my worst words to end up on my facebook profile.
can you picture playing fallout this way? every encounter with something would be a status update: ‘obnoxious gamer just killed a raider’. let me tell you, after getting 50 of that in a newsfeed, i would run into a wall until i knocked myself out.
maybe i am wrong. maybe jimmy hoffa isn’t dead. maybe i still can’t believe it’s not butter! all jokes aside, i know that for me, this kind of social gaming is *kind of* like being on the subway:
ttc: subway patrons always force their shit on to you – their fashion choices, their food, their music.
gaming: social games always appear in your newsfeeds.
ttc: pain in the ass as a general rule, but i get to meetings on it sometimes if there isn’t a cab.
social gaming: also a pain in the ass as a general rule, but it has a ton of value for business.
what does this analogy have to do with social gaming? a little pointless, wasn’t it? POINTLESS LIKE MOST FORMS OF SOCIAL GAMING! HA! winner right here.
