we’ve long known about how awesome the psp and the ps3 can be together. i used to work with a guy who would leave his ps3 running at home while he was at work. while in between meetings, he’d use company wifi and the psp to establish a connection with the homebase. pretty clever, if we’re keeping score here.
i’m only recently coming around to this because i’ve been scooping up a couple of games for psp that have been on sale at my local best buy. assassin’s creed: bloodlines was going for $20 – really, how could i leave it there?
previously, it was a pain in the ass trying to get my psp to sync with my ps3. now that i have assassin’s creed: bloodlines, plus the whole demo thing going on in the playstation store… well, you can see where i am going with this.
i will be attempting a second round this month – everyone stay tuned.
ever wanted to bring along your gamecube, the way all your styling friends do with their psp and nintendo ds bullshit? well fuck THOSE guys. this is a console modification from some guy called techknott, who auctioned it off on ebay for the pure entertainment value of watching people turn into piranhas.
he earned a pretty penny for it though, scoring about 360 british pounds. that’s a little over $580 in canadian money. here’s a description that was floating around on the internet:
features a fully-functional Gamecube console, along with a bright 5″ color LCD screen, and a built-in controller and memory card for storage. the case was made using CNC cut acrylic and MDF plywood, and there are dual controller ports built into the front of the portable if you want to use a controller.
ah, the history of duke nukem. what a clusterfuck THAT is, eh? they keep promising us this shit, then they close down 3D realms. for the record, i don’t know if any of us ever believed the studio actually existed.
now though, it seems like there’s a duke nukem game coming for nintendo ds and the psp. it’s on this german site, and since since google translate turns it into a big old incoherent pile of shit, i’ll give you the duke nukem game link but warn you.
never let it be said that sony is afraid of a clusterfuck. as we all know, the psp was great. for those of you just getting a clue, i will sum things up. the psp wasn’t perfect, but it had a lot of heart and everyone loved it. so when sony announced another psp, gamers were, to put it mildly, wickedly pumped. then the psp go hit the market, and it was like that guy who laughs uncontrollably at a funeral: awkward and eventually shunned.
sony had various takes on it. sometimes they bemoaned the average consumer’s woeful lack of taste. sometimes, they were just all ‘fuck it. we ROCK’. lately, they’ve been pretending they ‘meant to do it’. their european counterpart spent a lot of time looking reporters in the face while seriously telling them the pspgo was actually just a marketing experiment. yeah. they wanted to see ‘what their consumers wanted’. their consumers don’t want shit, or have their investment in games ruined, but they glossed over a lot of facts.
recently, they vowed to ‘not give up on the pspgo‘. this desperate ploy is likely a reaction to apple’s extreme sales tactics. we will talk about this later, but suffice to say there is naughty behaviour afoot. if you don’t have an apple device, a black-clad squad will come to your house in the middle of the night and beat you up til the wee hours of the morning. they will then force you to go out and buy something apple-related. maybe i am making this up. maybe i am not. maybe vegans are weird and we shouldn’t trust them. there’s a lot of questions.
anyway. sony is now giving – yes! – giving away content. sony plans to give away pspgo games. i believe this works for canada, but not sure. i am still too stunned by the whole ‘sony + free’ in the same sentence.
again, i am doing some catching up in my reading. apparently kratos is coming to psp again! if you don’t have one, fix that. it’s why i bought mine, as i fell in love with the man a couple of years ago and hated being apart from him.
not much is known about this game, other than this: it’s called ‘ghost of sparta’. not an incredibly original title for a game, but it promises to clear some stuff up about the k man. eric levine, who is the pr manager for SCEA wrote that the story would reveal “the origins of lost worlds and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos’ tattoo, scar, and family.”
read more about kratos on the playstation blog.
this past weekend, little_nerdxo and i went to casa loma. i was busy snapping pictures with my big, bulky SLR camera. out of nowhere, i heard the unmistakeable ‘click’ of a camera. while i very briefly worried i had been followed by the paparazzi, i was relieved to see that it was only some kid with a nintendo DS. i was actually seeing a current DS in the wild – and i was miffed.
‘wow. in my day, we used film. in an actual camera,’ i harumphed.
‘can’t beat progress,’ shrugged little_nerdxo. ‘look at you dorking out with your stupid smartphone camera. and all the stuff you can do with your SLR.’
both of these were things i already knew to be true. but it was something i needed to hear again. she was right. you CAN’T beat progress. it got me thinking about nintendo’s long and glorious history. so, without further ado, i present an infographic i found.
hard to believe nintendo has come such a long way, eh? this graphic takes a look at both the past and present successes of nintendo. it also stacks up their present glory against most other systems.
i do a lot of commuting. sometimes i try to bring along my psp to watch a movie, or play something good. sadly though, the psp is old and the battery dies often, despite me charging it. that leaves me looking for other mobile gaming options. my blackberry and i are locked into a 3 year contract together. sometimes it frustrates me, namely because the app store is so stupid. even the games on my blackberry make me cringe. my friends flash around their iphones, and some of the games on there make me jealous. on blackberry, what do i have? brickbreaker. plus a whole other gigantically boring list of equally dull apps.
anyway. i decided to make my blackberry awesome. and, since i’m a gamer, here what i did.
blackberry - it wants to be your friend
step 1: create a customized background. i took the ps2 logo, put it on a black background in photoshop, and imported it to the blackberry.
step 2: i made a custom ringtone in itunes. so, whenever someone calls me, i have the god of war theme song announcing them.
step 3: i found the signature ps3 trophy, but in a .wma format. using an australian program called ‘switch’, i clicked a button and transformed it into an mp3 version.
step 4: programming my smartphone.
and there you go! you’re welcome! i just you the four key steps into becoming the coolest person you know.
